RainTV - POC Full 5G Live Broadcast - SA 20 Companion Channel

Demonstrate Rain’s 5G network capability by producing a live, multi-camera companion broadcast to the SA20 cricket tournament — streamed entirely over 5G, no fixed infrastructure.

Five concurrent channels delivered as a website companion experience — one directed/live-edited main channel and four dedicated static views. Camera feeds were transmitted from dedicated 5G network blocks demarcated within the stadium, routed from OB van to IP, then IP to vMix across a two-machine setup with a full sound desk and visual mixer. Directed remotely from De Waterkant, Cape Town, managing 25+ simultaneous streams.

Broadcast ran at a 32-second delay — intentionally positioned just behind SuperSport to avoid rights conflicts while delivering a parallel live experience.

5G private network segmentation · OB van to IP encoding · IP to vMix ingest · vMix dual-machine switching · Live audio mixing · Multi-stream management · Remote direction · Web delivery

This was a proof of concept for Rain’s 5G broadcast infrastructure — demonstrating that a professional-grade, multi-camera live production could be delivered entirely over a cellular network with no fixed broadcast lines, directed remotely, at scale.
